Ole Miss pitching coach Ashley Chastain has been named the new head coach at Charlotte.
Chastain spent two years at Ole Miss, working with the Rebels’ pitching staff that included Kaitlin Lee, Molly Jacobsen, and Brittany Finney over her tenure in Oxford. In 2018, the Rebels posted a 2.80 team ERA and .252 opponent’s batting average, with even more impressive numbers (2.29, .238) in 2019. The Rebels advanced to the NCAA tournament in both years, including a berth in the Tucson Super Regional in ’19.
Under Chastain’s guidance, Ole Miss had the 3rd-highest number of strikeouts and 5th-lowest ERA in the SEC in 2019, with twenty-four shutouts to the staff’s credit in two seasons.
Prior to joining the staff at Ole Miss, Chastain spent a single season as an assistant coach at Michigan State and helped lead the Spartans to the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament. Her coaching resume also includes a three-year stint as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston; a stint as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, her alma mater; and time as the pitching coach for the German National Team.
Charlotte finished the 2019 season with a 15-35 overall record, including a 6-17 mark in Conference USA play.
