Celeste Loughman of UTSA and Weber State’s Lauren Hoe have been named the JWOS Co-Players of the Week for their efforts during week 5 of the Division I season. Loughman batted .615 in four games for her team, with four home runs and ten RBIs. In a midweek game against Incarnate Word, Loughman went 2-3 in the leadoff spot, including a leadoff home run in the first inning. Stetson head coach Frank Griffin earned the 750th win of his tenure leading the Hatters over the weekend. Griffin, who is in his 24th season as the Hatters’ head coach, reached the milestone with a win over Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon. The victory also marked the 975th win of Griffin’s career, which includes seven seasons as the head coach at Winthrop from 1983-89. Army head coach Cheryl Milligan earned the 500th win of her career on Saturday. The Black Knights earned a 6-3 win over Yale to clinch the milestone victory for Milligan. The win was Milligan’s tenth at the helm of Army; formerly the head coach at Division III Tufts, Milligan is now in her first season at the helm of the Black Knights. During her 15-year tenure at Tufts, Milligan assembled as 490-148 overall record, and led the Jumbos to three Division III National Championships from 2013-15. The tornadoes and weather-related disasters that swept through western and middle Tennessee earlier in the week have affected one of softball’s own. Former Iowa State pitcher Savannah Sanders, a resident of the Nashville area, had her entire home destroyed, with no walls or roof remaining and nearly all of her family’s possessions wiped out. Sanders, her parents, and the family dog were all protected in a bathtub during the storm. Devin Brown Lowe is no longer on the Southern Miss coaching staff, a school spokesperson confirmed to JWOS. Lowe was hired as the program’s pitching coach this fall under first-year head coach Brian Levin. A South Alabama alum, the position was Lowe’s first collegiate coaching gig since graduating from South Alabama in 2018.
