Bailey Vick of Kentucky and Haley Cruse of Oregon have been named the JWOS Co-Players of the Week for Week 3 of the Division I regular season. Vick batted .750 on the week for her Wildcats, collecting fifteen hits in twenty at-bats. Vick began her team’s stay in Birmingham with eleven consecutive hits to start the Samford Tournament. She batted a perfect 5-5 against Georgia Tech in an extra-inning victory over the Yellow Jackets, adding four stolen bases to her week’s statistics. LSU senior pitcher Maribeth Gorsuch threw a perfect game on Saturday, the first-ever 7-inning perfect game in Tigers program history. The fourth-year hurler’s perfection in the circle was backed by  four runs from her offense in a game that LSU won by that final score, 4-0. After the game, Gorsuch said in an LSU release, “It’s amazing but I have to give all of the credit to my catcher, my teammates, and my coaches.  Without their support none of this would be possible, we work hard day in and day out. College of Charleston head coach Linda Kalafatis earned her 1,000th career win on Saturday evening. Kalafatis led the Cougars to a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State, giving the longtime head coach the milestone victory. The win moved the Cougars to 3-7 on the young season. Now in her seventh season at the College of Charleston, Kalafatis owns 192 wins during her tenure leading the program, with the Cougars having reached the 30-win mark four times under her guidance. “I’ve so enjoyed my time at the four universities I’ve coached at. LSU head coach Beth Torina recorded the 500th victory of her career on Friday night. Torina reached the milestone in impressive fashion, as her Tigers recorded a run-rule win over Sam Houston State and pitcher Shelby Wickersham threw her second career no-hitter in a 12-0 victory over the Bearkats. While the victory was the 500th of Torina’s head coaching career, it was her 371st win as the head coach at LSU, a position that she’s held since the 2012 season. Longwood head coach Kathy Riley is taking a leave of absence from the program that will stretch through the remainder of the 2020 season. Assistant coaches Kayla Miller, Emily Murphy, and Carly Adams will assume joint leadership of the team in Riley’s absence. “As coach Riley takes the time she needs to address a private matter,” Longwood athletic director Michelle Meadows said, “our program will be in excellent hands with coach Miller, coach Murphy and coach Adams leading our student-athletes through the remainder of this season.” Riley is in her 23rd season as the Lancers’ head coach, and owns more…

Humboldt State player Evelyn Andrews has passed away after a battle with cancer. She was 20 years old. In a moving tribute, Humboldt State memorialized Andrews in an article entitled Never Fought Alone. In the article, it details Andrews’ love of softball as well as her fight against cancer; after finding a softball-sized tumor between her heart and lungs prior to her senior year of high school, Andrews underwent chemotherapy treatments and went into remission, never missing a step as she stepped back on the diamond that spring to finish her high school varsity softball career at Davis High. Four members of the Wright State softball team have entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, JWOS has learned. Alexia Hilling, Madison Mills, Madison Nunez, and Madison Whitaker have entered their names in the portal within the last week, sources informed JWOS. Whitaker and Nunez’s names appeared on February 13th and 14th, respectively, while Hilling and Mills’ names were both entered on the 18th. During the 2019 season, Whitaker finished third on the Raiders’ roster with a .278 batting average and led the squad with a .437 slugging percentage and five home runs. Nunez started fifty-two games in 2019, batting .263, with…
