The Chattanooga Mocs have filled out their coaching staff for the 2020 season, promoting one staff member and hiring a second.
Assistant coach Scottie Kilgore has been promoted to the title of Associate Head Coach, as he enters his sixth season on staff with the Mocs. Since joining the program’s staff in 2015, Kilgore works with the team’s offense and helped shepherd the team to a pair of conference titles, in 2015 and ’19. “We’ve seen vast improvements on the field because of Scottie’s contributions to the program,” head coach Frank Reed said in a statement. “[The promotion is] well deserved.”
Carson-Newman alum Brianna Shoemake has joined the Mocs’ staff as pitching coach, replacing Megan Betsa, who departed earlier in the summer. Shoemake graduated from Carson-Newman in 2013 and was a Division II all-American in 2011. Since her graduation, Shoemake worked as an educator and in the field of logistics, according to an online resume.
During the 2019 season, Chattanooga posted a 37-17 overall record, including an 11-7 conference mark, en route to the Southern Conference tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. The Mocs posted a team batting average of .293, while the squad’s pitching staff posted a 2.34 cumulative ERA.
