TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Kristen Zaleski has resigned her position, the school announced on Wednesday night.
Zaleski spent the last two seasons as the Islanders’ head coach, compiling a 24-46 overall record during her tenure. The program’s eighteen wins during the 2021 season – the only full season of Zaleski’s tenure – marked the squad’s highest win total in five years.
The Islanders ended the 2021 season with an 8-16 record in Southland Conference play, good enough for 10th in the conference standings. Following an exodus of teams from the league this summer, the Islanders placed sixth among teams that remain in the conference.
Prior to her tenure at Corpus Christi, Zaleski was the head coach at Temple College. She spent nine years leading the Temple program, earning more than 400 wins and leading the program to the NJCAA Division I national championship in 2018. She was named the region Co-Coach of the Year in both 2018 and ’19 and led the National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018.
Zaleski’s resume also includes a stint as assistant coach with the Dallas Charge pro franchise, as well as a single season as a graduate assistant at Texas State in 2006. She played professionally for six seasons, earning NPF Most Valuable Player honors in 2005 following an All-American collegiate career.
A Texas A&M-Corpus Christi press release on Wednesday night noted that the Islanders will conduct a national search for a new head coach. Assistant coach Paige Williams – the only remaining member of the 2021 coaching staff – has been named interim head coach.
