Stony Brook head coach Megan Bryant earned her 900th career win in her team’s 10-0 victory over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
While the veteran coach celebrates her milestone win, here are Five Fast Facts about the Seawolves leader.
1. She has coached the Seawolves for two decades.
Hired to take over the Stony Brook program in 2001, Bryant has spent the last two decades as the program’s head coach.
2. She is a 5-time conference Coach of the Year.
Bryant has been named the America East Coach of the Year three times while at Stony Brook, in 2009, ’12, and ’14. She also earned the conference Coach of the Year award twice from the Missouri Valley Conference while at Drake, in 1990 and 1993.
3. Stony Brook has reached the 30-win plateau nine times during her tenure.
Since Bryant got to Stony Brook in 2001, no senior class has ever gone their full four years without reaching 30 wins in at least one season. The Seawolves earned 36 wins, their highest total under Bryant, in both 2009 and 2012.
4. Her team was the last remaining undefeated squad in 2020.
Before the 2020 season abruptly ended, Stony Brook was the nation’s last-standing undefeated squad. The Seawolves started the year 7-0, saw the first program perfect game in nearly a decade, and had a player hit for the cycle during the abbreviated year.
5. She is a former 2-sport athlete.
Prior to her coaching career – which began in the mid-1980s – Bryant graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1981. While at Bridgeport, she played both volleyball and softball for the Purple Knights.
