UCLA pitcher Megan Faraimo is not currently with her team in Oklahoma City, the team confirmed in a statement to JWOS on Thursday.
“Sophomore Megan Faraimo did not travel with the team on Monday to Oklahoma City due to an injured right hand,” the team said in a statement. “She has an appointment with a specialist in Southern California this week, and her status for the Women’s College World Series is day-to-day.”
Sources told JWOS that Faraimo’s injury could be as serious as a broken hand, which would put Faraimo out of commission for the entirety of the Bruins’ stay at the WCWS.
Faraimo last pitched in game 2 of the Super Regional against Virginia Tech, earning the win in her team’s 2-0 victory over the Hokies. She pitched a complete game, allowed one hit, and notched eleven strikeouts.
The absence of Faraimo leaves the Bruins with Holly Azevedo as the likely #2 pitcher in their bullpen, behind two-time National Player of the Year Rachel Garcia.
