Nicholls has elected not to renew the contract of head Angel Santiago, the school announced on Monday.
Santiago spent the last ten years as the Colonels’ head coach, collecting a 255-229 overall record and a 130-103 mark in Southland Conference play. The Colonels earned the league’s regular-season championship in 2018, their first under Santiago’s guidance and also the first such title in more than two decades.
A two-time Southland Coach of the Year, Santiago earned the award in 2016 and 2018 and guided the Colonels to three consecutive runner-up finishes in the conference tournament in 2017, ’18, and ’19.
During the 2021 season, Nicholls posted a 12-28 overall record and a 5-22 mark in league play. The Colonels finished 11th in the Southland Conference standings and are not participating in the conference postseason for the first time since 2015.
Prior to taking over the Nicholls program, Santiago spent three years on staff at Florida State and five years helping lead the program at UNLV. He was a baseball coach prior to making the switch to softball.
