Former Herdster great one of two softballers to be enshrined in September
Marshall legend Rachel Folden has been selected for enshrinement in the program’s Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019. Joining Folden in induction is fellow Herd softball alum Nichole Corrigan.
Folden played from 2005-08 in Huntington, earning a quartet of all-American awards during her career with the Herd. On the program roster during the transition from the Mid-American Conference to Conference USA, Folden left her mark on a pair of conferences during her collegiate career.
The MAC Freshman of the Year in 2005, Folden also earned first-team all-conference honors for that conference in her freshman season. After the Herd joined Conference USA, she was twice named that league’s Player of the Year, in 2006 and 2008 and earned all-CUSA first-team honoree in each of the final three seasons of her career
A three-time all-region honoree, Folden also was named a Senior CLASS Award finalist in 2008 and was named to the Conference USA all-tournament team in both 2006 and 2007. She continues to hold fifteen program single-season and career records.
Corrigan, who played for the Herd from 1999-2002, was a three-time all-MAC selection during her career, including earning first-team honors in her junior season of 2001. A middle infielder, Corrigan was twice selected to the all-region team, including the first team in ‘01 and the second team in 2002. At the time of her graduation, Corrigan held the single-season program record for at-bats and ended her career in the all-time top five in three additional statistical categories.
Folden and Corrigan are part of a 10-member induction class into the Hall of Fame; the group will be permanently enshrined at a banquet in September in Huntington. After being inducted, the dectet will also be recognized before the Herd’s September 14th football game against Ohio.
