Fresno State has named Stacy May-Johnson as the Bulldogs’ new head coach.
May-Johnson spent the last two years as the head coach at Utah Valley, leading the Wolverines to a 36-35 overall record and an 8-10 showing in conference play. May-Johnson was hired as the program’s head coach a month before the 2020 season began, but led the Wolverines to a hot start; the squad was five games above the .500 mark when the season unexpectedly ended.
During the 2021 season, the Wolverines went 24-28 overall with an 8-10 conference record. Out of conference play, the program enjoyed wins over Nevada, Seattle, and BYU, and finished with a 1-2 record in the WAC tournament.
Prior to her tenure at UVU, May-Johnson’s resume included stints on staff at Eastern Kentucky; Purdue; Louisville; and Iowa. A former player at Iowa, May-Johnson spent a decorated career playing professional softball, where she was a 3-time All-Star and 2-time league MVP.
At Fresno State, May-Johnson takes the helm of a program that finished the 2021 season with a 37-12 overall record and a 20-4 conference record. The Bulldogs won the Mountain West title and earned the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
