Hartford has named Don Justus as interim head coach, the school announced on Friday.
Justus was the sole remaining staff member on the Hawks’ staff; he spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the program. He joined the Hartford staff prior to the 2020 campaign, and helped lead the program through the abbreviated 2020 season as well as the topsy-turvy 2021 season.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Coach Justus agree to lead our softball program this year,” Hartford athletic director Dr. Sharon Beverly said in a school statement. “He brings a wealth of successful experience and knows our Hartford program well. Our team will be in good hands.”
Prior to his tenure at Hartford, Justus served as an assistant coach in two tenures at Division II Kutztown, as well a stint at Iona College.
Hartford finished the 2021 season with a 6-13 overall record. In May, the school’s board of regents voted to reclassify from Division I to Division III within the next five years. Head coach Angie Churchill departed the program to become head coach at Seton Hall a week ago.
