TRENDING NOW: NCAA TRANSFER TRACKER / COLLEGE COACHING TRACKER
George Washington has hired Chrissy Schoonmaker as the program’s new head coach, the school announced on Thursday.
Schoonmaker spent the 2021 season on staff at Harvard, but never coached a game with the Crimson after the Ivy League’s decision to severely limit opportunities to play this spring.
In addition to her role with the Harvard softball program, Schoonmaker served as a color commentator for SEC Network+ broadcasts of Gamecock softball games. She traveled to Columbia for games, calling live-streamed matchups throughout the year.
Prior to joining the Harvard staff, Schoonmaker served in an administrative role at South Carolina, her alma mater. She previously spent five years on the coaching staff at UConn and served stints as an assistant at Houston, Texas Tech, and South Carolina.
A South Carolina alumnus, Schoonmaker earned both bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from USC and was an all-conference defensive team selection in 2008.
