Mercer has hired Courtney Gettins as an assistant coach, the program announced on Friday.
Gettins spent the 2020 season as the volunteer assistant at Texas. She was part of the Longhorns’ staff that helped lead that program to the Austin Regional title and a berth in the Super Regional round against conference rival Oklahoma State.
Prior to her single season at Texas, Gettins was a graduate assistant on staff at Jacksonville in 2020. She helped lead the Dolphins to a 15-11 record prior to the season’s abrupt end. Gettins also coached in the Florida Gulf Coast League this summer.
Suiting up for Florida Southwestern and Alabama during her playing career, Gettins was a two-time JuCo All-American and earned the NJCAA Division 1 National Pitcher of the Year award as a freshman. In her two seasons at Alabama, she boasted a 20-7 overall record.
“Courtney has played and coached at a high level, and both of those things will be a huge asset to our program,” first-year Mercer head coach Lindsay Fico said in a statement. “She knows what it takes to be the best. Her work ethic is tremendous, but it’s her ability to communicate with pitchers and constantly get the most out of them when they’re in the circle that I love most. She brings a winning attitude and championship mentality to Mercer, and I can’t wait to see her contributions.”
