Courtney Martinez will be the new assistant coach at Iowa State, completing first-year head coach Jamie Pinkerton’s staff.
Pinkerton previously added pitching coach Kate Sinnott to his staff, and retained Peter Suarez as Director of Operations from the previous administration. Pinkerton was hired as the program’s head coach earlier this month.
Martinez was previously the associate head coach at UNLV, where she spent three years on the Rebels staff. Prior to her tenure in Las Vegas, Martinez’s coaching resume includes stints in various roles as an assistant at CSU-Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, and Azusa Pacific.
A Cal State Fullerton alum, Martinez earned 2nd Team all-Big West honors in 2009 and was part of four Titan teams that reached the NCAA tournament, including a Super Regional berth in 2007. At the conclusion of her playing career in Fullerton, the former infielder ranked in the top ten in four career statistical categories.
In joining the Iowa State staff, Martinez joins a Cyclone program that went 23-35 in 2017 and won one-third of their Big 12 conference games. The Cyclones return several players, including freshman phenom Sami Williams, who led the program with a .363 batting average and eight home runs in her inaugural season in 2017.
