The Columbia Lions have added Beth Krysiak as the program’s new assistant coach. Krysiak will work with the team’s pitching staff.Krysiak most recently served as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon, a Division III school in Pittsburgh. That squad won thirteen games in their first season of play, including five conference matchups. Prior to starting the program at Carnegie Mellon, Krysiak spent five years as the head coach at the University of Dallas. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics – commonly referred to as the NAIA – announced last week that the division’s Softball Championship in 2020 has been relocated due to a scheduling conflict. Originally set to take place in Springfield, Missouri, the tournament will now be held in Columbus, Georgia after a double-booking conflict was discovered in Springfield. South Commons Softball Complex will now serve as the venue for the 2020 championship; the stadium is well-known for hosting the softball portion of the 1996 Olympic Games, and also hosted the 2019 USA Softball International Cup. Fort Lewis (Division II) head coach Elle Fracker has resigned her position, the school announced in a press release. The Skyhawks head coach for the past four seasons, Fracker collected a 53-150 overall record during her tenure with the program, collecting a .353 winning percentage. She was the sixth head coach in program history. In a statement, Fort Lewis athletic director Brandon Leimbach said, “I have accepted Elle’s letter of resignation and would like to thank Coach Fracker for her dedication to the FLC softball program. The proposal to allow a third paid assistant in Division I baseball and softball is officially dead in the water for at least the next two years. Originally presented in April of this year, the proposal would have allowed – but not required – teams to have four paid coaches on staff, including the head coach and any assistants. The measure was defeated in the initial vote in April, but was presented for reconsideration in October by the Southeastern Conference, who also sponsored the initial legislation. Alabama senior infielder Claire Jenkins will miss the 2020 season after suffering an injury, the school announced in a press release on Thursday. Per the school’s announcement, Jenkins tore her ACL in practice and underwent successful surgery in Birmingham on Thursday morning. As a junior during the 2019 season, Jenkins started sixty-nine games at the shortstop position for the Crimson Tide. She batted .221 during the year, with thirteen home runs – a mark that tied for second on the team. Former Florida State star Carsyn Gordon has joined the coaching staff at Division II Palm Beach Atlantic, the school announced on Thursday. Gordon will be a graduate assistant coach on the Sailfish staff. Gordon completed her playing career at FSU with the 2019 season, and was part of the Seminoles squad that won the Women’s College World Series National Championship in 2018. She helped lead the program to four consecutive conference championships and a pair of WCWS appearances, including the national title-winning appearance in 2018. Illinois-Chicago (UIC) announced on Tuesday the hiring of Michael Lipitz as the program’s new athletic director. Lipitz takes the helm of the Flames’ athletic department following an eight-year stint as deputy athletics director at North Carolina State. At NC State, Lipitz had oversight in a litany of categories for the athletic program, including personnel & legal matters, capital projects, facilities and operations, and special events, among other duties. Former Ohio State and UCF standout Lena Springer has been hired as an assistant coach at Delaware State. Springer began her career at UCF, spending her freshman season with the Knights in a year when the squad won the American Athletic Conference title and reached the NCAA tournament. She pitched sparingly during her single season as a Knight, to the tune of a 2.52 ERA in 16.2 innings of work, also contributing on offense with a .304 batting average and a home run in twenty-three at-bats.
