Former Texas A&M standout Kaitlyn Alderink is joining the roster at Louisiana-Lafayette, sources confirmed to JWOS on Wednesday. At Louisiana-Lafayette, Alderink will be reunited with Gerry Glasco, the Cajuns’ head coach who was hitting  coach at Texas A&M during the early years of Alderink’s career in College Station. The Aggies’ starting second baseman from 2016-18, Alderink made headlines last fall when she walked away from softball, electing instead to simply finish her education in lieu of playing her senior year. Tatjana Matthews has been hired as head coach at South Carolina State, JWOS has confirmed. Although no formal announcement has been made by the school, Matthews is listed as the program’s head softball coach on the athletics website. She had previously been the head coach at NAIA Allen University for a single season. During the 2019 season, Matthews led Allen to a 16-24 overall record, with a 4-22 record in conference play. Travel ball player Presley Mitchell died on Saturday night after collapsing mid-game earlier in the day. She was eleven years old. Presley, who played for the Texas Attitude 12U team, collapsed on the field during a tournament in Denison, Texas, according to reports, and later passed away at a nearby hospital. Oklahoma senior Nicole Mendes suffered a torn ACL and will miss the start of the 2020 season, Sooners head coach Patty Gasso announced in a radio appearance on Tuesday. In the interview where she discussed her senior standout’s injury, Gasso noted that Mendes does not have a torn meniscus, only a torn ACL. Addy Jarvis, the Horizon League’s Freshman of the Year in 2019, has entered her name in the NCAA’s transfer portal, sources confirmed to JWOS. Jarvis, who spent her freshman season at Youngstown State, collected a 12-11 overall record for the Penguins, along with a 2.58 ERA. She allowed 149 hits and assembled a nearly 4/1 strikeout/walk ratio in 170.2 innings of work in the circle. It was not-so-many years ago that the Abilene Christian Wildcats were vying for a postseason berth. Despite a four-year period that prohibited them from conference & NCAA postseason play after realigning from Division II to Division I’s Southland Conference, the Wildcats were able to participate in the inaugural, pay-to-play National Invitational Softball Championship in 2017. The Fort Hays State Hall of Fame induction class of 2019 was officially enshrined on October 26th, and among the honorees was former Tigers softball star Maddie Holub. Holub finished her playing career at FHSU in 2013 as one of the most decorated players in program history. At the end of her playing career, she owned thirty-four career; single-season; and single-game records, including nineteen that were set in the pitching circle and fifteen on the offensive side of the ball. Ashley Cook has been hired as the head coach at Coppin State, the school announced earlier in October. Cook takes the reins as the eleventh coach in program history, replacing Gino Olivieri in the position. Former Rutgers standout Nicole Bowman is transferring to Charlotte, she announced on social media over the weekend. Bowman previously announced her intentions to transfer from Rutgers during the summer portion of the offseason, and sources at that time informed JWOS that Bowman was likely to sit out the 2020 season. Who is he? Jake Schumann, a longtime former Division I assistant and head coach. What is he known for? Schumann spent more than decade as a collegiate head coach, beginning his career at Carl Albert State College and Texas A&M-Kingsville before ultimately  taking over the program at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and, later, Florida International.
