Washington legendary pitcher Danielle Lawrie will be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018, it was announced on Thursday.
The two-time National Player of the Year, Lawrie earned the award in 2009 and 2010, her junior and senior seasons, after taking off the 2008 season to play for Team Canada in the Beijing Olympics.
Lawrie earned three all-American awards during her career, being named to the first team in 2007, 2009, and 2010. Her trophy case also includes a pair of Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year awards, as well as three all-conference first-team selections.
In 2009, Lawrie led the Huskies to the program’s first-ever Women’s College World Series title. Named the Most Valuable Player of the WCWS and a member of the all-tournament team, Lawrie ended the ’09 season with a 42-8 record and 521 strikeouts in 350.2 innings of work.
Lawrie is the fourth former Husky softball player to be enshrined in the school’s hall of fame. She’ll join Angie Marzetta Mentink; Sara Pickering; and Jennifer Spediacci in receiving the honor.
In 2016, Lawrie was named Washington’s Female Athlete of the Century during the PAC-12 conference’s 100th birthday celebration.
Joining Lawrie as part of the induction class of 2018 are Mark Brunell (football); Chris Gobrecht (coach, women’s basketball); Brock Mackenzie (golf); Brandon Roy (basketball); Courtney Thompson (volleyball); and Chad Ward (football). The 1984 and 1985 women’s eight-oared crews will also be enshrined.
The class of 2018 will be officially inducted in a ceremony on October 21st.
