When National Pro Fastpitch announced last week the cancellation of their 2021 summer season, the announcement included a reference to expected difficulties related to “quarantine requirements imposed on the international teams participating in NPF” and that those teams “would be hindered with entrance and exit requirements.”
After the NPF made their announcement on December 3rd, the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois – the professional franchise made up exclusively of members of the Team Canada roster – made an announcement of their own.
“The Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois is excited to continue its partnership with Softball Canada to provide world-class softball to Southern Illinois,” read a December 4th social media post by the organization. “Softball Canada, played in the National Pro Fastpitch league in 2019 as the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois and later qualified to play in the upcoming 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The team will return to Rent One Park in 2021 and will bring some of the best opponents in softball.* Schedule and ticket information will be announced later.”
One potential opponent for the Canadian Wild could be the USSSA Pride; the two teams competed against one another in the NPF in 2019 before the Pride became an independent team for the 2020 summer season.
