Virginia Tech legendary hurler Angela Tincher O’Brien will be inducted into the school’s athletic Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018.
Tincher became one of the nation’s best-known players during her career as a Hokie, and set a plethora of program pitching records, numbering more than fifty in all and including the Hokies’ all-time mark in wins; strikeouts; and ERA.
A three-time all-American, Tincher was twice named the ACC’s Pitcher of the Year and earned a pair of the conference’s Player of the Year honors. In 2008, she was named the USA Collegiate Player of the Year and earned the Honda Softball Player of the Year award that same season.
At her career’s end, Tincher boasted 123 career wins; 2,149 career strikeouts; fourteen career no-hitters; and a 0.78 career ERA in more than 1,116 innings of work. All still stand as Virginia Tech program records.
Tincher spent the last five seasons as the pitching coach at her alma mater and helped guide the Hokies’ pitching staff to a 2.34 team ERA during the 2018 season.
Joining Tincher in the induction class of 2018 are Jessica Botzum Cockrill (swimming); Billy Holsclaw (football); Patrick Nyarko (soccer); Eddie Royal (football); and Darryl Tapp (football).
The group of six will be officially inducted in mid-November and will be honored during the Virginia Tech/Miami football game.
Tincher is the fifth Hokies softballer to be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame, joining Michelle Meadows (2010); Clarisa Crowell (2013); Ashlee Dobbe (2014); and Megan Evans (2017).
