Houston has signed head coach Kristin Vesely to a contract extension through the 2021 season.
Vesely owns sixty-seven victories in just two years as the Cougars’ head coach and led the program back to the NCAA tournament’s regional round in 2018 via an at-large bid from the American Athletic Conference.
Promoted to the position of head coach prior to the 2017 season, Vesely has led Houston to back-to-back 30-win campaigns and shepherded nine all-conference selections. Under Vesely’s tutelage, Shelby Miller was named the 2017 AAC Co-Player of the Year and Savannah Heebner earned all-American honors in 2018, as well as the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award the same season.
A high school and travel ball coach before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, Vesely spent six years as an assistant coach on the Houston staff before being elevated to head coach. A former Oklahoma Sooners star outfielder, Vesely set the Sooners’ all-time hits record and earned a pair of all-American awards in the latter portion of her playing career.
With the new contract extension, Vesely is now under contract through the 2021 season, extending her original three-year pact. Financial terms of the new deal were not immediately disclosed.
