Penn standout Emma Nedley has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, sources told JWOS on Thursday. Nedley entered the portal in the last week of February, per sources.
Nedley is the first high-profile Ivy League softball player to enter the transfer portal following the conference’s decision to do away with conference play for the second consecutive season in 2021.
Reached by JWOS on Thursday, Nedley said that she intends to graduate from Penn in spring of 2022 and will transfer and play following that time. “I want to finish what I started here,” Nedley said.
The conference Rookie of the Year in 2019, Nedley was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection that year and also earned her team’s offensive Most Valuable Player award. That season, Nedley batted .386, with five home runs, eight doubles, and eleven stolen bases. She paced her team in four statistical categories, including hits and runs scored.
In 2020, Nedley led all Ivy League hitters with a total of thirteen RBIs to her credit when the season abruptly ended. She finished the shortened year with four runs scored, two walks, and three extra base hits in thirteen games.
A native of Harrison City, Pennsylvania, Nedley will have two years of eligibility remaining at her eventual landing spot.
