Boston head coach Ashley Waters has agreed to a contract extension to remain with the Terriers long-term.
In her third season at the helm of BU in 2018, Waters led the Terriers to an NCAA tournament berth and the third-most wins in program history with thirty-nine victories. During the course of that year, the Terriers upset the then-#1 and defending champion Oklahoma Sooners.
The NCAA tournament berth was the second for the program in Waters’ tenure, after the squad also reached the NCAA postseason in her first season at the helm, 2016.
Under Waters’ leadership, the Terriers swept the Patriot League awards in 2018. The list of honors included Waters being named the conference’s Coach of the Year, while freshman Ali Dubois was the first in program history to be named the league’s Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in the same season. Alex Heinen was named the conference Player of the Year, following teammate Jilee Schanda, who earned the award the previous season.
The Terriers own a 92-71 record under Waters, with an impressive 40-12 conference mark. Before taking the helm at BU, Waters spent three years as an assistant coach at Harvard.
As a player at Maine, Waters posted a career .352 batting average and earned a pair of all-conference honors. She was named the America East Player of the Year in 2008 and earned Academic All-American honors in each year of her career.
The length and terms of Waters’ extension were not immediately known.
