Softball greats Lauren Chamberlain and Natasha Watley have been announced as two of the participants in the 2021 MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game.
Chamberlain and Watley were two of the dozen celebrities who were among the second wave of famous participants in the game that was announced earlier this week. Held annually, the Game includes Major League Baseball legends as well as entertainment stars and athletes from other sports.
Announcing her participation on her own social media pages, Chamberlain on Friday wrote, “This could potentially end up being the best day of my life” alongside four laughing emojis. In addition to her softball exploits, Chamberlain has recently expanded her portfolio by working with MLB and, in 2020, began hosting a Youtube show called “Stack’d” on the league’s channel, where she interviewed MLB players while they played a game of Jenga.
In addition to Chamberlain and Watley, Arizona legend Jennie Finch was already scheduled to play in the Celebrity game. Finch has been a mainstay at the event for a decade and served as a team captain for four straight years, from 2016-19. She was 2-2 as a captain and was the starting pitcher for her team in ’18 and ’19. Those same two years, fellow softball great Jessica Mendoza was the opposing starting pitcher in the slowpitch affair.
Outside of Finch and Mendoza’s regular appearances, 2009 was the last recorded time that softball stars were announced participants in the game. In 2009, four pro softball players – Kristen Butler, Samantha Findlay, Megan Gibson, and Trena Peel – played in the game, while Amanda Beard and Lovieanne Jung also played in the 2005 edition.
The 2021 All-Star Celebrity Softball Game will air on ESPN from Denver, Colorado on Monday, July 12, at 10 pm ET/9 pm CT.
