What is she known for? Goodman starred for Louisiana-Monroe from 2000-03, anchoring the program from behind the plate. Goodman posted a career batting average of .328, with thirty-seven home runs during her career and 147 RBIs. Louisiana-Monroe then competed in the Southland Conference, and Goodman earned all-Southland honors in each of her four years as an Indian. She twice earned all-region honors and was named ULM Female Athlete of the Year in 2004.
Here’s something interesting… In 2013, Goodman was selected to the Southland Conference’s all-time softball roster, named on the occasion of the league’s 50th Anniversary celebration. Goodman was one of eight ULM Indians/Warhawks named to the team, and the only catcher.
Quotable quote: [on what she would tell the next generation of softballers]“Be a good person. Be a good teammate. Plain and simple. If you are a good person AND a good teammate, that’s a great combination for team chemistry. I’ve had teams where we weren’t very talented skill wise, but because we were good teammates and good people, we won way more games than we should have. I’ve had super talented teams that didn’t win close to what we should have because we just weren’t good teammates or people. It’s vital for team success, in my opinion, of course.”
What’s she up to now? After her college career, Goodman enjoyed a brief playing career overseas before embarking on a coaching career. She served on the coaching staffs at LSU-Eunice; LSU-Alexandria; and Lamar State College before returning to her hometown of Bakersfield, California to become the head coach at Bakersfield College. In her first season as head coach in 2018, Goodman’s team went 33-11 and won the conference championship. In addition to coaching softball, Goodman also serves as a professor at the school, teaching health; intro to kinesiology; fitness; and archery.
