Who is she? Haley Wiseman, a former pitcher for the Charlotte 49ers.
What is she known for? Wiseman joined the 49ers pitching staff after beginning her career at Division II Barry and immediately became a valuable member of the team’s pitching staff. Wiseman posted a career-best opponent’s batting average of .198 in 2016, her sophomore season and her first at Charlotte. Twice an all-Conference USA honoree, the righty ended her career at Charlotte with a 3.03 ERA and 557 strikeouts in her three seasons as a member of the 49ers.
Here’s something interesting… In the Charlotte program’s record books, Wiseman stands as just the fourth player in the program history to reach the 500-strikeout plateau. In 2017, she threw a perfect game against Robert Morris, the program’s first such pitching performance in nearly two decades and just the fourth perfect game in 49ers history.
Quotable quote: “[Don’t] wish the game of softball away. I’ve seen many players that are ready to be done with the game and move on with their post-softball lives. Trust me when I say that you will wish you soaked up all of the time you had left on a softball field, playing the game you love, when it is not your time to play anymore.”
What’s she up to now? Since graduating from Charlotte in 2018, Wiseman became engaged and returned to her home state of Florida. In addition to entering nursing school, she gives pitching lessons and, earlier this year, joined the coaching staff at her alma mater, Lake Region High School, where she serves as the team’s pitching coach.
