Loyola Chicago has named Alicia Abbott as the program’s new head coach.
Abbott spent the last five seasons on staff as the associate head coach at Northern Illinois, where she helped lead the Huskies to 147 victories during her tenure. She helped tutor nineteen all-conference players while at NIU and was part of the staff that led the Huskies to the MAC West Division title in 2016.
Prior to her tenure at NIU, Abbott spent a single season as an assistant at SIU-Edwardsville, serving as part of a staff that led the Cougars to an NCAA tournament berth. Her coaching resume also includes a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Newberry College and a year as the volunteer assistant coach at North Carolina State, her alma mater.
As a player, Abbott began her career at Illinois-Chicago before transferring to North Carolina State for the final two seasons of her career. The Horizon League’s 2008 Newcomer of the Year, Abbott later hit .283 in her pair of seasons as a member of the NC State Wolfpack.
The Loyola Ramblers finished the 2019 season with a 25-25 overall record, including a 9-16 mark in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Ramblers began the season on a 9-game winning streak, and finished the year with a 12-7 record at home.
