Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson will be named head coach at Florida International University (FIU), sources confirmed to JWOS over the weekend.
Steiner-Wilcoxson spent the last five years as the head coach at Alabama State, leading the Lady Hornets to a pair of SWAC championships during her tenure. The Lady Hornets paced the league in 2016 and ’19, taking home the conference tournament crown and earning an NCAA tournament berth in both years.
Under Steiner-Wilcoxson’s leadership, the Lady Hornets totaled three postseason appearances, adding a National Invitational Softball Championship berth in 2017, as well as the pair of NCAA Regional appearances.

Prior to taking the helm at Alabama State, Steiner-Wilcoxson spent six seasons as the head coach at Auburn-Montgomery when the program competed at the NAIA level. Steiner-Wilcoxson led the AUM program to a national championship in 2014. Her coaching resume also includes a stint at Reinhardt College and at the high school level.
As a player, Steiner-Wilcoxson starred at Auburn, helping start the Tigers’ softball program. Twice a team captain during her career at AU, Steiner-Wilcoxson hit the first home run in program history. She earned a pair of all-conference Academic honors. She currently ranks in the top five in Auburn’s career record books for triples and stolen bases.
In taking over the FIU squad, Steiner-Wilcoxson assumes the helm of a program that went 26-25 overall on the 2019 season, with a 7-16 record in Conference USA play. The Panthers batted .233 as a team on the year, while the squad’s pitching staff posted a 4.54 cumulative ERA.
