Former Virginia Tech head coach Scot Thomas has been named the new head coach at Gulf Coast State College.
Thomas built the Virginia Tech program from the ground up, spending more than two decades at the program’s helm and leading the Hokies to the only Women’s College World Series appearance in program history in 2008.
During his tenure at Virginia Tech, Thomas collected a 794-568 overall record, with sixteen winning seasons and eight appearances in the NCAA tournament. The 2008 WCWS appearance was – and remains – the only time the Hokies have advanced past the NCAA regional round.
The 2007 ACC Coach of the Year, Thomas also earned Coach of the Year honors in the Atlantic 10 conference in 1999, when Virginia Tech competed in that league.
A former longtime men’s fastpitch player, Thomas is also a veteran of the US Navy.
At Gulf Coast State College, Thomas takes over a program that finished the 2019 season with a 40-12 overall record. GCSC is located in Panama City, Florida and competes in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
