Texas Tech and head coach Adrian Gregory have agreed to a contract extension, the school announced late Wednesday.
The new 5-year contract will run through the 2024 season; Gregory’s original deal, signed at her hiring in 2014, expired with the 2019 campaign.
2019 marked the Red Raiders’ best season under Gregory, as the squad posted a 42-16 overall record on the year and reached the Baton Rouge regional final. After starting the season on a 13-game winning streak, the Red Raiders finished the season fourth in the Big 12 standings and were ranked in the top 25 for the majority of the season.
Offensively, Gregory’s squad nearly set a number of records during the 2019 season, finishing second in five different single-season statistical categories in the program’s history. The team’s pitching staff collected 341 strikeouts on the year, also a mark good enough for second-place all-time in the program’s laurels.
The Red Raiders had struggled some prior to the breakout 2019 campaign. The squad were selected for the National Invitational Softball Championship after the 2018 regular season ended.
During her career at Texas Tech, Gregory boasts a five-year record of 140-138 and a single NCAA tournament appearance, in 2019.
Prior to taking the helm at TTU, Gregory spent four years on staff at Sam Houston State, working with the Bearkats’ offense. Her resume also includes a season on the support staff at her alma mater, Texas A&M, as well as an assistant coaching stint at Utah.
As a player at Texas A&M from 2002-05, Gregory earned all-Big 12 conference honors in 2004 and was part of the 2005 Big 12 championship-winning Aggie squad. She finished her career in College Station in the top ten in three different career statistical offensive categories, including home runs.
