Texas Tech redshirt sophomore outfielder Michaela Cochran tore her ACL and is out for the season. Cochran posted the news on her Twitter account prior to the start of the regular season, and sources confirmed the news to JWOS.
Cochran was the Red Raiders’ starting center fielder as a redshirt freshman in 2018, starting all fifty-nine of her team’s games. She finished second on the team with seventy-three hits, a mark that also ranks in the single-season top five in school history. She also finished second on the team in runs scored, and third in batting average and on-base percentage.
After the season, Cochran earned all-Big 12 Tournament honors after hitting 7-12 in her team’s trio of games in the conference tournament. She also earned first-team academic all-conference honors after the season.
In her Twitter post, Cochran wrote, “Recently found out that I tore my left ACL so I won’t be able to compete along with my team in the 2019 season… so this applies now more than ever but 2020, IM COMING FOR YOU!!!!! #COMEBACKx2” (sic).
The impressive 2018 campaign came after Cochran redshirted her true freshman season in 2017.
