“Gia had knee surgery in the off season and has not progressed to the point where we feel comfortable with her competing this season,” the release quoted Baylor head coach Glenn Moore as saying.
Rodoni earned an all-region honor in 2018 after posting a 23-12 overall record, a mark that included two no-hitters and eight shutout victories. Rodoni posted a 2.32 ERA on the year in over 223 innings in the circle.
The then-junior collected 268 strikeouts during the ’18 season, a number that led the Big 12 conference and ranked in the top 15 nationwide. Opponents hit just .215 against her on the year.
Without Rodoni’s absence, the Bears will look to senior Regan Green – who posted a 2.89 ERA in 106.2 innings last season – and sophomore transfer Sidney Holman to lead the team from the circle. The pitching staff also includes sophomore Lexi Koltz and freshman Madison Lindsey.
Rodoni is expected to seek a medical redshirt and return to the Bears for her fifth year in 2020.
