Wichita State pitcher Bailey Lange is out for the season with an ankle injury.
Lange, who also is a regular part of the Shockers’ batting order, sustained the injury while running the bases in an early-season game. The senior super-utility player appeared in just eight games before sustaining the injury.
A former Northern Iowa transfer now in her second season with the Shockers, Lange earned first-team all-American Athletic Conference honors in 2018 in her initial season in the league following her transfer. She finished the ’18 season with a 20-13 record in the circle, with a 2.90 ERA and 183 strikeouts, as well as a .285 batting average and seven home runs at the plate.
In a social media post, Lange noted, in part, “4 weeks ago I slid into second way too fast on a turf field and broke my ankle. It’s a crazy feeling going from being fortunate enough to be picked as one of the top 100 softball players in America, to a medical red shirt your senior year of your career. So many questions and fears run through your mind when something like this happens to you… But then when I go to practice and am around my team, all of those doubts go away and it’s almost like they won’t even give me the option to have the fears and doubts that I have. Moral of the story is, make sure you’re surrounded by great people during the bad times, everything seems a little easier and a lot more possible.”
As noted in her own social media posting, Lange is expected to redshirt the remainder of the 2019 season and return for her final season in 2020 as a redshirt season.
