ESPN commentator and former softball star Jessica Mendoza will take on new roles at the network.
Among Mendoza’s new roles will be serving as an analyst for midweek Major League Baseball games for ESPN’s family of networks; covering the World Series for ESPN Radio; and making studio appearances on SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, and other network programming.
Notably, the expanded role also takes Mendoza out of the Sunday Night Baseball broadcast booth, where she spent four seasons and was paired in 2019 with play-by-play broadcaster Matt Vasgersian and fellow color commentator Alex Rodriguez.
The former softball great has also resigned from her role as a New York Mets baseball operations adviser. She had held the advisory position since March 2019.
Mendoza joined ESPN in 2007, and began working as an MLB analyst in 2015. Within her new role, she will continue to rejoin the network’s softball coverage during the Women’s College World Series, and will also report from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She previously signed a contract extension with the network in December 2018.
During her softball playing career, Mendoza was a four-time first-team All-American and won a pair of Olympic medals while participating in the Games as part of Team USA. The former Stanford outfielder was inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame last year.
