Chad Kerr has been hired as head coach at Division II Southwest Baptist.
Kerr spent the 2020 season as the head coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where he led the program to a 10-16 overall record before the season’s abrupt end due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to taking the helm at OPSU, Kerr’s coaching resume includes a 3-year stint as the head coach at Lincoln University and time at Alderson Broaddus and Central Christian College. He was the athletic director at Central Christian from 2012-14.
Southwest Baptist athletic director Mike Pitts said in a statement, “”I’m very happy to announce that we have hired Chad Kerr to be our head softball coach. He brings some good experience, a strong work ethic, and a genuine concern for student-athletes into the Bearcat Family. Out of all of his documents he gave us when he interviewed, I was most impressed with his statement of faith. I have no doubt that under Coach Kerr’s leadership, our softball team will have great opportunities to compete with excellence on the field, continue their great work in the classroom, and (most importantly) grow closer to Jesus Christ.”
The Bearcats finished the 2020 season with a 7-12 overall record, ending the season on a 2-game winning streak. Kerr replaces Dalton Kelley as head coach of the program.
