First-year head coach Kirin Kumar has filled out her inaugural coaching staff at Miami, with the announcement of Brandon Duncan as the team’s new assistant coach.
In addition to Duncan, Morgan Zerkle was retained as the program’s second assistant. Zerkle is the lone holdover from previous head coach Clarisa Crowell’s staff.
Duncan most recently was an assistant coach at Rutgers, spending the past two years on staff with the Scarlet Knights under Kristen Butler. He primarily worked with the team’s pitching staff and slappers, and was part of the staff that led the program to the NISC tournament in 2019.
Prior to Rutgers, Duncan served on Butler’s staff at Toledo and was part of the 2018 MAC Coaching Staff of the Year. His resume also includes stints on staff at Charleston Southern; Samford; Virginia; and Georgia Tech. He also spent four years as the head coach at Lander University from 2007-11.
Miami finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 12-8 overall record, including a win over Big Ten foe Iowa. The Redhawks’ pitching staff recorded a 2.57 cumulative ERA with 181 strikeouts and an opponent’s batting average of .199 on the shortened year.
