Rutgers will add Brynne Dordel as the program’s new pitching coach, sources told JWOS.
Dordel spent the last three years as the volunteer assistant coach at Alabama, and was part of the Crimson Tide coaching staff that helped lead the program back to the Women’s College World Series in 2019.
Prior to her stint at Alabama, Dordel spent one season as the pitching coach at Iowa State and three years as an assistant coach at North Dakota State. She was part of the NDSU staff that won regional Coaching Staff of the Year awards in 2015 and ’16, as well as Summit League honors in a similar category in 2014 and ’15. She began her coaching career with a 2-year stint on staff at Ball State (2012-13) and was part of back-to-back conference title teams in Muncie.
As a player at Drake from 2008-2011, Dordel helped lead the Bulldogs to the Missouri Valley conference title in 2008 and the team’s first NCAA tournament appearance in more than fifteen years. She was the MVC Newcomer of the Year in ’08 and earned second-team all-conference honors as a junior in 2010.
Rutgers finished the 2020 season with a 10-14 overall record that included a pair of wins over Syracuse. The Scarlet Knights’ pitching staff collected a 5.19 team ERA, 148 strikeouts, and an opponent’s batting average of .308 on the abbreviated year.
