As the scandal surrounding Michael Lotief’s firing at Louisiana-Lafayette continues to roll on, there is a bright spot connected to the program, in program alum Lacey Bertucci Sharp’s election to the Ragin Cajun Hall of Fame.
Sharp played for the Ragin Cajuns from 2004-08 and earned all-conference honors in each of her four seasons on the squad. She played in a school-record 255 games during her career and hit fifty-eight home runs. Her best season offensively came in her junior year of 2007 when she hit nineteen home runs and recorded fifty-seven RBI.
Sharp was part of the first Ragin Cajun squad to go undefeated in Sun Belt conference play, helping lead the team to that milestone in 2004 as a freshman.
Five former Ragin Cajun athletes and three administrators make up the Class of 2017; Sharp is joined in induction by Dion Brown (men’s basketball); JoJo Harris (women’s track and field); Jonathan Lucroy (baseball); and Kim Perrot (women’s basketball), as well as administrators Danny Cottonham, Sherry LeBas, and John Porche.
The group will be inducted in a ceremony on November 17th and recognized at halftime of the Homecoming football game the next day. Sharp is the sixteenth former Cajun softball player to earn entrance into the Hall of Fame.
