In a press release on Wednesday, James Madison confirmed that reigning National Player of the Year and pitcher Megan Good will miss the 2018 season due to a knee injury.
Head coach Loren LaPorte and Good “jointly” made the announcement, in which it was also noted that Good will return in 2019.
Good was the Dukes’ leading hitter and top pitcher in 2017, in a season that saw her earn the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Year award, in addition to the National Player of the Year trophy and being named a first-team all-American.
As a junior, Good hit .383 last season, with twelve home runs and fifty-eight RBIs; she paced her team in each of those categories. Good also accounted for nearly 2/3 of her team’s innings in the circle, throwing for 244.2 frames and posting a 0.63 ERA. With 271 strikeouts, Good averaged better than one strikeout per inning and finished the year with a nearly 8/1 strikeout/walk ratio.
The Mount Sidney, Virginia native has been named an all-American in each of the first three seasons of her career, including First Team all-American nods in 2016 and ’17. Good’s trophy case also includes three all-CAA first-team awards and a trio of the conference’s Pitcher of the Year trophies. She was named both the CAA’s Pitcher and Player of the Year in 2017.
The Dukes are scheduled to begin the 2018 season on February 9 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico against Nevada.
