Arizona State pitcher Giselle “G” Juarez and George Washington infielder Jenna Cone have been named the Justin’s World of Softball Co-Players of the Week.
Juarez pitched in each of her team’s three games against California, earning two wins and a save. The pulse of her team for much of the 2018 season, the sophomore continued her impressive work in the circle this week. Pitching in relief in the first extra-inning game of the series, Juarez threw three innings and struck out eight of the nine batters that she faced. A day later, she went all ten innings for her team, allowing five hits, two unearned runs, and striking out seventeen. Another four strikeouts in two innings in the final game of the series gave Juarez a weekend line of 22 innings pitched, 10 hits, 2 runs (unearned), and 37 strikeouts.
Cone, for her part, hit .857 during her team’s three-game set against St. Bonaventure with three home runs and nine RBI. The Colonials’ star sophomore recorded just one out in the series and reached base four times via a free pass – twice on a walk, twice after being hit by a pitch. She hit a home run in each of the trio of games, and drove in four runs in a 3-4 performance in the middle game of the series.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of the season for each player, and the second award for the PAC-12 and Atlantic 10 conferences in the 2018 campaign.
