Former Saint Louis softball star Laura Bohning was the focus of an answer* in the first round of questions on the classic game show Jeopardy! in an episode that aired on Tuesday.
In the category entitled “Home Run”, the answer read ‘In the 7th inning of a 2013 NCAA softball game, St. Louis’ Laura Bohning put 8 runs on the board with 2 of these.”
The correct response: “What is a grand slam?”
The trivia refers to a game that took place on May 3, 2013. Against Rhode Island, Bohning hit two grand slams as part of a 12-run seventh inning for the Billikens that led to an eventual 21-2 final score.
With the pair of home runs, Bohning tied an NCAA record as one of only three players in Division I history to hit two grand slams in one inning. Thanks to her two home runs in the game, Bohning also tied the Saint Louis program’s career record, a mark that she would later break.
When asked about being featured on the game show, Bohning said that an old classmate alerted her that she had been part of an answer on the show. Saint Louis head coach Christy Connoyer was also among those who reached out after having seen the show.
“I still can’t believe it actually happened,” Bohning said. “[It] seems surreal, but it’s awesome to see college softball getting some attention on the national stage!”
*On Jeopardy!, the choices that appear on the game board are referred to as answers. Contestants’ responses are called questions.
