Wisconsin’s Kelsey Jenkins earned the JWOS Big Ten Player of the Year, while Michigan pitcher Meghan Beaubien earned a pair of awards, taking home the Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors.
Jenkins hit well both in and out of conference play, as she finished with a .420 overall batting average in forty-seven games. In conference play, Jenkins posted a .462 batting average with eleven extra base hits and fourteen RBI. She led her team in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, the latter a .578 mark.
Beaubien started the year hot and maintained that consistency through much of the regular season. In her first year in maize and blue, Beaubien led the league with a 0.90 overall ERA and earned 32 wins in just shy of 200 innings pitched. 90.1 of those innings were against Big Ten opponents; she posted a 9/1 strikeout/walk ratio in conference play and had a 0.93 ERA.
Indiana head coach Shonda Stanton was named the Big Ten’s Coach of the Year, after she led her Hoosiers to the #3 conference seed in her first season as the IU head coach. After a ninth-place finish in the 2017 standings and a lackadaisical preseason performance, the Hoosiers showed out in conference play, sweeping Ohio State and taking a game from Michigan, among other highlights.
