ORIGINAL STORY:
The Lamar Cardinals announced that head softball coach Holly Bruder has been placed on paid administrative leave.
A school release on Friday offered no information, other than to note that Bruder was placed on leave “pending an investigation into a violation of university policy.”
Lamar athletic director Marco Born announced Bruder’s leave of absence. Born is in his first six weeks in the position, having been hired at the end of March of this year. He followed Jason Henderson who had served in the position of AD for eleven years.
A credible source close to the Cardinals program told JWOS that players that had been dismissed from the team had filed a complaint. When reached by text message, Bruder said she could not comment at this time. School officials did not immediately return a request for comment.
Bruder is in her sixth season as head coach at Lamar after being hired to restart the program. She led the Cardinals to the championship series in the inaugural NISC postseason tournament in 2017, before losing to the Liberty Flames amidst some controversy.
A tweet posted on Saturday purported to show current Lamar players being forced to remove a banner that they had hung in support of Bruder. The accuracy of the information in the tweet could not be immediately independently determined.
