Who is she? Abigail Harter Farler, a former pitcher and team captain for the Marshall Thundering Herd.
What is she known for? Farler spent four seasons in the circle for the Herd, collecting fifty-two wins during her tenure. She was named to the all-Conference USA second team in her junior season and earned an all-tournament team nod from the conference championship that same year. She collected more than 363 strikeouts and ended her career with a 2.67 earned run average.
Here’s an interesting story… While Abigail was great at softball, her skill on the bowling lanes might be a bit lacking. “I’m so bad at bowling that I actually threw the ball into the 30-foot ceiling,” she said. “I broke the lights at the bowling alley. It was with my former teammates several years ago… I haven’t attempted to bowl since then!”
Quotable quote: [on her favorite career memory]“I would say overall… it was the fall. Practicing with the beautiful weather in West Virginia in September, conditioning while the drum line was practicing on the field next to our softball field. Every time I hear a drumline now, I feel like I should be doing sprints. But I love it. There was a lot of pride in how hard we worked in the fall.”
What’s she up to now? 2018 will be Farler’s second season as the head coach at Corban University, an NAIA school. In her first season at the program’s helm, she led the Warriors to a conference title and finished as the national runner-up at the NAIA World Series Championship. She also spent three years as an assistant at Western Oregon before taking the position at Corban.
