Boston College has named Amy Kvilhaug as the program’s new head coach.
Kvilhaug most recently spent twelve years as the head coach at St. John’s, having retired following the 2018 season. During her tenure at St. John’s, Kvilhaug led the Red Storm to seven Big East tournament appearances and nearly 300 victories, as well as an NCAA tournament berth in 2015. At the time of her retirement, Kvilhaug said, “I am simply ready for a new chapter in my life and will still be coaching, just in a different capacity and with a much different schedule as I begin my career as a life and performance coach.”
Prior to her tenure at St. John’s, Kvilhaug was the head coach for four seasons at Radford and left the program as the Highlanders’ all-time wins leader. Her coaching resume also includes stints as an assistant coach at Seton Hall, Rutgers, Florida Southern, and Providence, her alma mater.
During her playing career from 1993-96, Kvilhaug made her mark as one of the Friars’ all-time greats, setting seven program records, including wins, ERA, and shutouts. She was named the Big East conference’s Rookie of the Year in 1993 and earned all-conference and all-region honors in 1994. In February, Kvilhaug was inducted into the Providence Athletics Hall of Fame.
Boston College posted an 18-35 overall record during the 2019 season, including a 4-20 mark in conference play. The Eagles posted a team batting average of .249, while the program’s pitching staff collected a 5.22 cumulative ERA.
