Army West Point has named Cheryl Milligan as the program’s new head coach.
Milligan spent the 2019 season as an assistant coach with the Black Knights, her first coaching experience at the Division I level. Prior to beginning her tenure at Army, Milligan spent fifteen years as the head coach at Division III Tufts University.
During her tenure at Tufts, Milligan built the Jumbos into perennial national title contenders, leading the squad to three consecutive national championships from 2013-15. The Jumbos reached the NCAA Finals seven times and won ten conference titles under her guidance.
Milligan boasts a career record of 437-124 from her Tufts tenure, while she was named the conference Coach of the Year eight times. The Jumbos posted an undefeated 51-0 record in 2015 en route to the program’s third consecutive national championship.
A Tufts alum, Milligan played every inning for the Jumbos during her four-year career as the program’s starting shortstop, later serving as an assistant coach with the program before being elevated to the head coaching position.
Milligan’s husband, Jamie Pinzino, serves as the associate head coach and pitching coach for the Army baseball team.
The Black Knights posted a 26-30 overall record during the 2019 season, including an 8-10 mark in Patriot League play. The squad ended the season with a .266 team batting average and 3.04 program ERA.
