Truman State head coach Erin Brown has announced her intention to step down from her post at the conclusion of the 2019 season. According to a university press release, Brown is leaving her position due to a family move to Troy, Missouri, where her husband has taken a position as a high school principal. Brown is in her thirteenth season as the Bulldogs’ head coach, and is the winningest coach in program history, with more than 300 career wins at the school. Who is she? Haley Wiseman, a former pitcher for the Charlotte 49ers. What is she known for? Wiseman joined the 49ers pitching staff after beginning her career at Division II Barry and immediately became a valuable member of the team’s pitching staff. Wiseman posted a career-best opponent’s batting average of .198 in 2016, her sophomore season and her first at Charlotte. Twice an all-Conference USA honoree, the righty ended her career at Charlotte with a  3.03 ERA and 557 strikeouts in her three seasons as a member of the 49ers. The South Carolina Gamecocks enjoyed a Cinderella season in 2018, earning a regional hosting berth and advancing to the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament. The Gamecocks’ pitching staff gained much praise during the postseason run, a staff that included junior transfer Dixie Raley. Raley finished the year with a 14-5 record for the Gamecocks, as well as a 2.09 ERA and 106 strikeouts. She earned the victory in the first game of the Columbia regional final, throwing seven innings of shutout ball with eight strikeouts to force a winner-take-all final game from which her team would ultimately emerge…

Ouachita Baptist head coach Mike McGhee passed away over the weekend after a lengthy battle with cancer. A tweet from the Ouachita Athletics account officially announced McGhee’s passing, saying, “This morning Head Softball Coach Mike McGhee passed away after his fight with cancer. His love for Ouachita, his players and the lord was prominent in his time as Head Coach of the Tigers. Please remember his wife Debbie, daughter Beth, and son Ryan in these difficult times.” (sic) McGhee had been the head coach at Ouachita Baptist for fourteen years, since 2004, and was the owner of more than 300…

A rare occurrence was seen in Cathedral City on Thursday evening, as the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic was forced to prematurely end the opening day of games due to inclement weather. Several games were in progress, with more to go, when field conditions dictated an across-the-board stoppage at approximately 5:00 pm local time. Games were originally scheduled to go through the evening hours, with two games starting as late as 8:30 local time. After the tragic, sudden death of Geri Ann Glasco in January, the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday announced league-wide plans to honor the former Oregon and Georgia star. At the time of her death, Glasco was working as the volunteer assistant coach at Sun Belt member school Louisiana-Lafayette under head coach and her father, Gerry Glasco. In a post on the conference’s social media, the Sun Belt announced that league teams would wear a custom sticker on their batting helmets during the remainder of this season. In what was then-termed as a cost-cutting measure, the Eastern Michigan softball team played its final season in 2018. Now, a federal judge has ordered that a softball coach should be hired by April 1st and that the program is to be reinstated by the fall of 2019.
