Veteran collegiate coach Sheryl Neff passed away on September 18th, according to a recent obituary. She was 64 years old. As a student-athlete in the 1970s, Neff played softball and basketball at Ohio Northern University before finishing her collegiate career at Abilene Christian, where she joined the track and field roster. She began her collegiate coaching career at the University of Findlay, then an NAIA school, and led the program to eight conference championships and one district championship, guiding a pair of players to All-American awards. Texas A&M assistant coach Kara Dill has been named the head coach of the Manatee Squeeze in the Florida Gulf Coast League. The Squeeze finished as league runners-up during the FGCL’s inaugural season this past summer. The team finished the summer season with a 17-6 overall record. Dill has served on staff at Texas A&M for four years, and is the team’s pitching coach. She previously served on staff at LSU and with the professional Scrap Yard Dawgs. Former San Diego head coach Larry Caudillo passed away on September 10th. He was 67. Caudillo was the first coach in program history at the Division I level, as he presided over the program during the transition up from Division III starting in 1986. He spent eight years at the helm of the program, crossing the 30-win plateau three times. He recorded 211 career victories and is the second-winningest coach in program history. Jen Petteys is joining the coaching staff at UNC-Wilmington, sources confirmed to JWOS. Petteys spent the 2020 season as the volunteer assistant at North Carolina State, having joined the Wolfpack in the fall of 2019. She served as the team’s first base coach and worked with the outfielders and hitters. Prior to joining the Wolfpack staff, Petteys spent seven years as the head coach at York College of Pennsylvania, where she collected a 153-144-2 overall record. Cal State Fullerton has added Charlotte Morgan to their coaching staff, the school announced on Tuesday. Morgan will serve as a volunteer assistant coach, and will work with the Titans’ pitching staff. Alabama infielder Skylar Wallace has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, JWOS confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. Wallace was the Crimson Tide’s starting second baseman as a freshman in 2019, starting 68 games for the program. She earned a nod to the SEC’s All-Freshman team, as well as the conference’s All-Tournament Team, following the year, and was also named a third-team All-Region selection by the NFCA. Maria Winn has joined the coaching staff at Galveston College and will serve as an assistant coach, she confirmed to JWOS on Monday evening. Winn spent the 2020 season as the head coach at Louisiana Tech, and led the Lady Techsters to an 8-16 overall record and a 2-1 start to conference play before the COVID-19 pandemic prematurely ended the season.
