Kentucky pitching ace Autumn Humes is returning to the Wildcats for the 2021 season, utilizing the NCAA’s extended eligibility waiver.
Humes announced her return on social media on Tuesday. In a note on her personal social media pages, Humes wrote, “Hey BBN! I’m happy to announce I’ll be taking the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA. Although I’m overwhelmed with emotions, I am so blessed and excited to play in a Kentucky uniform for one more year! Thank you to my teammates who I love so dearly, my coaches who push me to be the best, our softball staff who set us up for success, and my family who supports me endlessly. See ya on the field in 2021“
After beginning her career at Division II Harding University, Humes transferred to Kentucky prior to her sophomore season. In three years in Lexington, she owns a 3.23 ERA with 177 strikeouts and 29 victories. When the 2020 season ended prematurely, Humes sported an undefeated 5-0 record, with a 3.19 ERA and .258 opponent’s batting average.
A two-way player, Humes also owns a career .232 batting average and five career home runs. She was enjoying her best season at the plate in 2020, sporting a .300 average, four home runs, and fifteen RBIs.
One of four seniors on the Wildcats’ 2020 roster, Humes is the first to publically announce her return for a repeat senior season.
