Bethune-Cookman pitcher Alexis Bermudez has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, sources confirmed to JWOS on Wednesday.
Bermudez has a full trophy case from her two years at BCU, including being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Year after the 2019 season. She was named the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2018, and helped lead Bethune Cookman to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
As a freshman in 2018, Bermudez led the BCU squad with a 3.32 ERA and recorded thirteen victories. She finished second on the team with sixty-six strikeouts that year, while adding a .278 batting average in her own right at the plate, along with five doubles and nineteen RBIs.
During the 2019 season, the right-hander appeared in a career-high forty-eight games, posting a record of 15-22 and a 3.50 ERA. She led the conference in strikeouts with 168 and threw a pair of no-hitters on the year. Opponents hit .233 against her during her sophomore campaign, while she also earned all-MEAC tournament honors.
Early in the 2019 season, Bermudez got the start against PAC-12 foe Oregon at the Mary Nutter Classic and allowed just two hits and three runs against the Ducks, officially earning a no-decision but helping buoy the Wildcats to the upset victory.
