Southern Miss has named Brian Levin as the program’s new head coach.
Levin most recently was the head coach at Belmont, spending three seasons at the helm of the Bruins. During his tenure in Nashville, Levin led his team to the first-ever Division I postseason berth in program history, in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament in 2017, adding a second tournament berth after the 2019 season. Levin ended his Belmont tenure with a 91-70 overall record, the most wins in a three-year stretch in program history.
Prior to taking over at Belmont, Levin spent six years as the head coach at Division II Missouri-St. Louis, shepherding that program as a championship-level stalwart in the D2 ranks and collecting a 249-83 overall record during his tenure. The Tritons advanced to the NCAA tournament in four consecutive years from 2013-16, and advanced to the Super Regionals in 2014 and ’15.
Formerly the head coach of the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch league, Levin spent three years at the professional level; his staff earned the league’s Coaching Staff of the Year honor in 2014. A 20-year military veteran and former college football & baseball player, Levin’s coaching resume also includes a stint as an assistant at Murray State and time at the travel ball level.
Southern Miss finished the 2019 season with a 30-22 overall record, including a 13-11 mark in Conference USA play. The Golden Eagles earned the #5 seed in the conference tournament, the first postseason berth for the program since 2016, but were upset in the first round by UTSA.
